Living Room Mood Board

(Some of the artwork is hard to read. Sorry! I'm still learning here!)

This room is probably my favorite so far! I have a tendency to be too "Matchy Matchy" in my decorating and I'm trying to branch out in my thought processes. Although the color theme is fairly consistent in this particular board, there is a lot of room for deviation in accent colors, textures, & materials. For instance, I would love to add an industrial cart as a coffee table or some rustic floating picture ledges. This room is bright, welcoming, & comfortable. Sigh...

Breakfast Nook Mood Board

Ta Da! Here is my idea for our Breakfast Nook:

I love the Mid Century Modern elements in the planter & Eames reproduction chair/bird. I like how the bright colors of the fabric contrast with the more rustic wood art and farmhouse table. Throw in some pretty-pretty with the painted buffet table and capiz shell chandelier and I'm in heaven! Our next home will have a Great Room set up with the Living Room, Kitchen, & Nook in an open format. I wanted to bring in the same paint colors from the Kitchen but add in more pops of charcoal.

Here are the sources:

  1. Martha Stewart Paint in Sharkey Gray
  2. Martha Stewart Paint in Rainwater
  3. Behr Charcoal Gray
  4. Benjamin Moore in Hawthorne Yellow
  5. Capiz Chandelier from West Elm I actually plan to make my own using the wax paper method but this is the inspiration
  6. Joel Dewberry Modern Meadow Herringbone fabric in Pond from Etsy seller The Needle Shop
  7. V & Co Fabric Diamonds in White Mustard from Lilly Bella Fabrics I've purchased from them before and they are wonderful! Coincidentally they are located in the town we are hoping to move to. I am lucky enough to only live 15 minutes away from their Home Base & was able to pick up the fabric right away. I highly recommend them!
  8. Dwell Studio Fabric in Bella Porte Charcoal
  9. 5" Plank Engineered Hardwood in Vicksburg Espresso from Shaw Floors
  10. Retro Bullet Planter by Hip Haven in Turquoise & Coral
  11. Random Farmhouse table :) I'm really tempted to make the one from Shanty 2 Chic though.
  12. Eames inspired Ronnie Wire Base White Chairs from Overstock
  13. Random Wood signage...saying is No Whining, Be Happy, Do Your Own Thing, Enjoy Life, Dream Big, Kiss...found this on Pinterest but no link to the original. Should be easy to recreate.
  14. Update an older buffet table or sideboard with a bold color
  15. Awesome Ballard Design inspired shelves from House of Smiths. Such a great blog!
  16. Pallet Wood Sign from Blooming Homestead
  17. Eames inspired decorative bird from Click On Furniture

Kitchen Mood Board

Okay. I realize that I'm not a professional interior designer or necessarily someone of importance to anyone besides my family and friends. That being said...I thought I'd share my ideas for our next home. Right now we are trying to decide between:
a) Location - building with a reputable company in a subdivision that we completely adore...knowing that we may not get everything we want in or outside the home. You can only customize a tract home so far.
or
b) Form/Function - waiting 2 years for our current mortgage to be paid off and then build our dream home (including all of our favorite things) in some undiscovered location that may be less than ideal.

Its a hard decision to make. We would like this home to be the one we stay in for the next 30+ years. One way that I deal with stress is by obsessing focusing on something else. In this case it is how to decorate the home. Whether we get everything we want upfront or we put our hands/power tools/minds to good use and make it happen later...I'm fairly certain I we can achieve the look that I we want either way.

Yes I'm designing this without the input of my adorably neurotic and OCD husband. Don't judge. He is actually colorblind and is pretty ambivalent about decorating on the whole. In fact...he only really cares about two things...quality...and quantity (of nail holes). As long as there is enough of the first and as few as possible of the second, he's game. He's pretty fantastic about letting me do whatever I want to achieve my vision. :)

Which brings me to my...

I love this look. It is so calming and bright and cheerful all at once! I love all things vintage. I'm fairly certain that I should have been born in another era...or several other eras. I'm pretty eclectic when it comes to style. I like things that make me feel happy. I'm not really into neutral themes that are designed to please everyone. What I love most in this room are the things that I've always been drawn to. The Farmhouse sink, Industrial Warehouse Pendant, the wannabe Tolix stools, and the cheerful fabrics. Crossing my fingers that this becomes a reality soon!

Here are the resources if you would like to see them:

  1. Martha Stewart Interior Paint in Rainwater. Using this as an accent paint color. Possibly on my pantry door. You can visit a post by Tatertots and Jello here if you would like to see what it looks like in a room. She also has Sharkey Gray in there as well which is my main wall color. She did such a great job!
  2. Premier Prints Ozborne in Village Blue/Natural from Fabric.com
  3. Martha Stewart Interior Paint in Sharkey Gray
  4. Ivanhoe Union Warehouse Porcelain Pendant in Jadeite from Barnlightelectric.com
  5. Get the industrial feel for less! Concord Modern Satin Nickel Spiral Pull Down Faucet from Overstock.com
  6. MS International Mosaic Subway Tile in Arctic Ice at HomeDepot. You can also see it in action at Tommie & Ellie. They paired it with MS's Rainwater paint and its a perfect match! Check out their blog...they seem like wonderful people and have such a story to tell.
  7. Domsjo Kitchen Sink at Ikea
  8. Kashmire Granite in White
  9. Lansa Hardware from Ikea
  10. Shaker Style White cabinets. Any brand would probably work but I discovered these at Nickels Cabinets. The style is Farmhouse Antique White.
  11. 5" Plank Engineered Hardwood in Vicksburg Espresso from Shaw Floors
  12. Premier Prints Zig Zag in Village Blue/Natural from Fabric.com
  13. Upholstery fabric by Christopher Lowell in Soft Touch Teal from Joann's
  14. Possible alternate to Sharkey Gray....Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter. I would like one main color throughout the house and then add accents as necessary. I'm 99% sure we'll go with Sharkey Gray but I always like a backup!
  15. Benjamin Moore in Hawthorne Yellow
  16. Martha Stewart in Arrowroot for accent
  17. Tabouret 30" Metal Barstools from Overstock
  18. Yellow Bridge Teakettle from Crate & Barrel
  19. Thomas Paul Aviary in Maize from Fabric.com you can see it in Earth at House of Hepworths. I love that blog!
  20. Bird Box Set from Joss & Main. Its no longer in stock but I would like something similar on my counters. Can hold loose pepper, salt, etc
  21. Vintage yellow kitchen scale

Hello World!

This is my first ever blog post! Which is pretty silly since I created this blog ages ago. Better late than never, right? Well...if by some twist of fate I end up gaining a reader or two (besides my mom...Hi Mom!) I just wanted to say thanks for coming over. This blog is mainly to catalog some mood boards that I've created for  our next home. My husband and I are in the market to build soon. I really just wanted to have a place where I could link up all of my ideas and make some sense of my chaotic Pinterest boards. Eventually I would like to chronicle my successes and failures in crafting. In a way this blog is to keep me on my toes and hold myself accountable for my own happiness and growth. I love many types of crafting and often dream of doing it all. Sometimes I'm successful...and other times...I'm not. And that's okay. Basically, I just wanted to create a place where I could remind myself that:

a) I am capable of doing many things. Hard things. Complicated things. Things that I could just pay someone else to do...but would then lose out on the feeling of superiority accomplishment if I did.

b) It is always worth trying something new. Even if I fail miserably. Case in point; my first forage into cooking. You'd think that after 3 burnt pans, 2 melted spatulas, and a flaming toaster later that I would have stopped in my teens. But I kept going and was eventually able to cook something edible. Then a few somethings. I like reminding myself that in this case, perseverance paid off. Now that I'm typing this though, it kind of sounds like a twisted version of the 12 days of Christmas. It's probably a good thing that I've never seen a partridge or a pear tree. With my tendency to catch things aflame it probably wouldn't have ended well.

c) If all else fails I can always buy whatever it is that I'm trying to make. Yes...I'd lose the opportunity to gloat pat myself on the back. But I think it's important to allow myself to fail miserably and then move on if I need to. It helps me appreciate the things that I am good at.

So this is my blog. A way to evaluate if learning a new hobby/trick/talent is worth it to me. Yes? No? Maybe Sew? The point is that I've tried. Being willing to learn, putting in the effort, and accepting the outcome (whatever that is) makes a difference in how I view myself. Thank you for joining me in that journey.

Here's looking at you kids!
